Keeping children safe

Anyone watching the news hears a new story daily about abuse of children. Children deserve to have more stringent adherence to the laws that should be protecting them.

You are doing all the right things you watch your children while they are outside the house playing, you never let them wander off in stores, You know where they are and when they will be return when on outings with friends or family. You have met their teacher. You know enough about their coach, group leader or specialized instruction, right?

As a parent, coach, youth group leader, you need to be sure you are informed. Start with your neighborhood. Are there dangerous risks posed by individuals with past violations? If you visit or search the net you should look into the local sheriffs department listing of potential threats posed by predators.

Your children's school disclosure, you need to make them uncomfortable if need be, by insisting you know the full names of anyone employed by the school at any time that has any past or present violation. You have a right as a parent, they also have a right to hire who they wish, as long as they feel comfortable enough with their hiree's to provide knowledge of the person to parents. In other words help bleeding hearts who believe everyone deserves a chance know that their view cannot ever conflict with children's ultimate safety.

Field trips. Who is the volunteer that assists the teacher? What about the children your child comes in contact everyday. Do they have abusive parents or relations. Is your child visiting a friend in a home you have no information about?

Do your kids attend classes for any specialty? You may feel you know allot about the instructor, but what about the assistants, other children's parents and relations. How many children have abusive homes or worst. You as a parent have every right to know who has access to the facility that your child is attending.

What about scouting groups? I imagine you know the leader and some of the directors. Is the girls leader's husband or any other friend or relation that will in any way be in contact with the troop or group known to have been in any trouble for in appropriate behavior towards children or for that matter adults.

School Transportation. The bus drivers and their immediate families at times are present on these buses. Does the transportation department provide enough information about their hirees to parents do they feel comfortable with providing that information?

A child predator seeks places and positions in the community that allows access to potential victims, our children.

The park, the local amusement attraction. The pizza party places where kids are running to and fro. Who frequents these places and who works at these places. You have met your children's teachers, coaches and group leaders who else is in contact with your children?

Maintenance workers, at schools and facilities. Volunteers, assistants and aides at schools and other child oriented facilities, even relatives of parents you know, all pose a potential risk to children if they are given a green light by someone hiring or allowing the volunteer access to children.

So we have to be diligent, we need to make others who are placing potential risks in contact or allowing access to our children realize we insist on the full name at the least of all these individuals and anything they know full well about the individuals that is a matter of public record that can be relayed to anyone who inquires.

This is what we can do as we are responsible for our children's safety and well being. Now what can the authorities our legislatures congress and senate do. We need to be assured that these people are monitored. Not when and if they contact the authorities. When they are released back into our communities. I want full disclosure at that time of who allowed the release and I want them. The lawyers, the parole board, the judge, the medical examiner as they need to be held accountable when something happens as is usually the case, the sad end to a child's life.

We need to demand that the people that let the monsters out of the cage are known and they need to remember the lives lost or permanently altered by these monsters belongs on their conscience.
